The cornerstone of a thriving society is education. Regardless of background, every child deserves access to a high-quality public education. As your representative, I will always champion increased funding for our public schools, resources for our hard-working teachers, and the need for Universal Pre-K.
I am especially committed to extending our arts education opportunities, services for gifted and talented, and support for special education and mental health. Investing in our children’s education is the very foundation of our state's future success.
Whether it's reproductive health care, elder care, or any other medical need, I believe that access to health care is a basic human right and a must-have for ALL Kentuckians.
Healthcare and reproductive rights for all are essential components of personal freedom and autonomy. I will always defend anyone's right to make decisions about his/her/their own body. Furthermore, I will advocate for comprehensive healthcare services for every Kentuckian, including affordable and accessible contraception and support for maternal and infant health. As part of addressing maternal health, it is also critical that our state addresses the excessive maternal mortality rate of black women.
Besides general health care needs, I am greatly concerned about the medical needs of elderly Kentuckians, who face misdiagnoses, high costs of service, and elder discrimination with regard to health diagnoses. I know the first-hand struggles of caring for aging parents and the importance of finding ways for our state's aging citizens to age in place. I will work to find solutions to the growing elder crisis here in Kentucky, particularly with regard to mental health.
Our children's safety -- and the safety of all Kentuckians -- has reached a crisis point. I am passionate about the need for common-sense gun safety legislation that is so vital to ensuring the safety of our communities. I will advocate for responsible gun ownership, including background checks for all firearm purchases, closing loopholes, and implementing red flag laws to prevent individuals with a history of violence from acquiring firearms. By enacting common-sense measures, we can protect our loved ones while respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens.
As the daughter of small business owners for over 50 years, I have a special understanding and empathy for the folks who comprise the heart and soul of Kentucky's local economies. I believe we can successfully balance their needs with continued efforts to attract new industries and businesses to our state. All Kentuckians want high-quality jobs that pay well and afford a prosperous future for themselves and their loved ones.
I believe in a living wage. In my current job as an administrative assistant for Fayette County Public Schools, I work directly with struggling families. They deserve a fair minimum wage that aligns with the demands of our current economy. Furthermore, I advocate for the repeal of prevailing wage, right-to-work, and other anti-worker legislation that restricts Kentuckians' right to fair treatment from employers.
Every Kentuckian has the right to live a fulfilling and dignified life, no matter who they may be. We need legislators who lead with compassion, kindness, and common sense ... not cruelty.
Besides affordable healthcare and tackling poverty, other issues I support include racial equality, LGBTQ+ rights, affordable housing, the restoration of voting rights for felons, environmental sustainability, and the elimination of child abuse.
Let's make our Commonwealth a kind one.
